SOS WEEKEND 2021

We figured it was about time Wales had a proper women’s mountain biking event, one that offers education, inspiration and most of all, bloody good fun!
So, after months of organisation, hoop-jumping and long days at the laptops, we’re super stoked to launch the Sisters of Send Weekend this year, taking place from May 15th to 16th, 2021 at Bryn Bettws Lodge.

The Sisters of Send has rallied together industry-leading brands, special guests and top-notch experts for an action-packed weekend. We have a jam-packed weekend lined up with coaching and guiding from some of the best professionals in the UK, an airbag for jump practice, fancy-dress 4X mate’s race and an epic Trail Crusade on the Sunday… oh, and did we mention, we’ll be shutting off the bike park and some of the local trails for the Sisters of Send rabble.

So, what are you waiting for? Take a look below at everything on offer and then book your ticket quick, because once they’re gone, they’re gone!

WHAT’S ON

Coaching – With a private bike park at our disposal, an airbag and bespoke coaching facilities all within a pedal stroke of one another, coaching sessions will be running throughout the weekend. We’ve enlisted the help of some of the best female mountain bike coaches in the UK to help deliver an exceptional standard of coaching, perfect if you’re looking to hone your skills in time for the summer holidays!

Guiding – The Afan Valley is home to a vast mountain bike trail network. With a wide variety of terrains, gradients and difficulty, Afan is the ideal location to explore the stunning Welsh landscapes. Qualified guides will be leading out groups for some scenic and super-fun singletrack riding.

Airbag – Nothing inspires confidence quite like hurling yourself off a ramp and into a massive airbag. Practice your jumps, tricks and stunts, or just flop into the billowing embrace of our fully insured and licenced airbag, available throughout the weekend for coaching sessions and open practice.

Bike Park – After undergoing major renovations, the famous Afan Valley bike park is open and it’s better than ever before! The Sisters of Send will have full and private use of the bike park, which comprises of several short runs that allow you to practice railing tight berms, balancing on skinnies and, with the jump lines, there will be plenty of opportunities to SEND IT!

Event Village – At the heart of the venue will be our super fab event village of kickass exhibitors. The event hub will give you the opportunity to demo and purchase the latest bikes and kit from some of the best brands in the industry.

Women’s MTB Film Night (Friday Evening) – What better way to kick things off for the Sisters of Send weekend 2020 than with a mountain bike film night! We’ll have a selection of short-films from professionals and amateur female filmmakers to get our stoke on. Got a short film you want to submit, we’re taking submissions! For more information on submitting your piece, contact us!

Fancy-dress 4X Race (Saturday) – Did you know that Afan is home to one of the longest 4X tracks in the UK? 4X involves four riders setting off at the same time on a short track with the aim of being the first to cross the finish line at the bottom. Simple! So, on Saturday afternoon we’ll be hosting a mates-race fancy dress 4X event! Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed riders along with the category winners at the end of the day. Participation is optional, but cheering on and making a lot of noise is mandatory!

The Great Trail Crusade (Sunday) – Rally the troops, prepare your steed and join forces with the Sisters of Send as we embark on the Great Trail Crusade!
Defined as a vigorous campaign for political, social, or religious change, a good old fashioned crusade is exactly what the women’s mountain bike movement needs! As female mountain bikers, every one of us campaigns for equal opportunities every time we ride our bikes. In groups (or alliances), we’ll be sending you out into the wild aided by a map to locate trail markers which are lying in wait to be claimed.

There will be four difficulty levels your group can choose from; green, blue, red and black. All groups will be between 8-12 people, and if you can’t find enough members for your group, we’ll help pair you up! Prizes will be awarded for creativity and the fastest groups.

You don’t have to have the best kit or the newest bike! The Sisters of Send is all about meeting others and having fun while honing your skills to make 2020 your best year on the bike!

CAMPING & ACCOMODATION

Camping is available on-site throughout the weekend and included in both the rider and spectator tickets. We have plenty of space to accommodate tents pitched next to vehicles, including campervans. The campsite will be open from the afternoon of Friday, May 15th and will close on Sunday evening once the event has ended. We ask that all campers be respectful of others when it comes to noise and space and that you take all your rubbish with you, or use the bins provided.

However, if you prefer the comfort of a warm bed, or fancy staying in cabins or huts, then there are many wonderful accommodations spots in the valley, including on-site at Bryn Bettws Lodge and off-site at Willow Springs Campsite and the Afan Lodge.

TICKET TYPES

There are three tickets types available for the Sisters of Send Weekend 2020. Primarily, this is a women’s MTB festival, but we’re not excluding families, friends and pets which is why we have spectator tickets available and children’s tickets!
